A significant part of the evaluation and diagnosis of interstitial lung disease (ILD) includes the interpretation of the HRCT scan by advanced practice providers (APP). The high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) scanner stands as the most important imaging device for capturing the lung's inflammatory and fibrotic patterns.
APPs have the opportunity to develop their HRCT interpretation skills through expert case discussions and collaborative opportunities offered through the ILD Community Network.
Interpreting HRCT poorly may lead to an ILD misdiagnosis and affect disease progression monitoring and multidisciplinary care planning adversely. APPs with pattern recognition skills and structured clinical correlation and imaging reviews can significantly assist in illness reporting and therapeutic intervention productivity. The ILD Community Network has provided APPs the opportunity to hone their HRCT interpretations to improve overall ILD management.
